Reopening of Djibouti airport on the weekly Paris-Rome-Cairo-Djibouti-Dar es Salam-Antananarivo route, operated by DC-4. Flights to Djibouti had been suspended in 1947. At the same time, Air France inaugurates a Paris-Rome-Cairo-Khartoum-Nairobi-Dar es Salam-Antananarivo service. One of these two routes carries on once a week to Reunion Island and Mauritius.
